豊富の先人嘉野農場主嘉野久三郎の実弟で柔道の祖として有名な嘉野治五郎の協力を得て明治40年に嘉野久三郎が京都男山八幡宮より御分霊を受け久三郎他7名の有志が相謀り豊富に神社が創建された。
